Two features, same result.

Shelby Chisholm (Antigonish) swept both feature contests on Friday night for the Bluenose Pools Beginners.

The first feature on the evening was the heldover feature from July 5th for the seven qualifiers that competed before the rains came. Chisholm started up front and was challenged early by Brandon McGrath (Antigonish) with McGrath eventually taking the lead off a restart on Lap Four. A Lap Eight solo spin from the lead though would hand the lead over to Addison Veinotte (Porters Lake), who started last but was able to sneak by Chisholm on a restart.

Chisholm would take the lead back from Veinotte before Veinotte would spin by herself from second. A green-white-checkered finish would see Shelby be joined by her younger brother Ryan (Antigonish) and the two would race to a Nova Racing 1-2 finish in the first feature of the night. Veinotte would recover for third with Adlee Lively (Middle Sackville) and sophomore Ryder Smith (Wellington) completing the top five.

In the second feature, first time heat winner Sarah Vandenburg (Lower Onslow) led the field to green but Chisholm would hop to the lead on the back straight. Veinotte would move to second in the opening laps and would chase down Chisholm for another classic Beginner battle between the top two in points. Veinotte capitalized on a run out of the second turn on Lap 8, but Chisholm would take the lead back the next lap in the same corner. That would ultimately be the exchange for the win, with Chisholm holding off Veinotte at the end for the victory.

Jake Campbell (Sydney) was third, followed by Vandenburg for her best finish of the season in fourth and Lively in fifth.

Chisholm takes one of her biggest point leads of the season with a 12 point advantage on Veinotte heading into Labour Day Weekend.

Heat 1: 85 27 99 47 92 2 13-8

Wild and crazy was the name of the game in the Bluenose Pools Bandoleros but it was a familiar face holding the checkered flag.

Bella Pashkoski (Beaver Bank) captured her third Bandolero win of the season and ultimately the point lead after the 11th race of the season for the class. Pashkoski started sixth but wasted little time getting to the front. The No. 85 was second by Lap Three and made the inside move on Bristol Matthews (Nine Mile River) for the lead on Lap Six. A caution on Lap Seven triggered by contact from the No. 13 of point leader Avery DeCoste (Antigonish) to Hailey Bland’s No. 27 (Lakeview) would end the evening for Bland and Matthews, who got collected in the aftermath. DeCoste’s night, which started with a mechanical breakdown in the final practice, would end a couple laps later after a spin in Turn Two with Lily Whynot following a restart.

Three cars would be left on track for the final restart with four to go. Pashkoski set sail for The Tire Man Victory Lane, with Whynot (Dartmouth), who overcame the Lap Nine caution with DeCoste, finishing second while Irelyn Rose (Halifax) completed the podium. For Whynot and Rose, it was their first podium finishes of the season. Emma MacMillan (Maitland) was credited with four while DeCoste finished in fifth.

Pashkoski swept the night by winning the heat, giving her a nine point advantage heading into Maritime Auto Glass Night on September 6th.

It was another big night for Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) as he picked up his third straight feature victory in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends division for his sixth win on the year in the Weekly Racing Series.

Christensen started 12th on the field and was fifth by the time the first caution of the evening flew on Lap 10. Christensen would move to second by the end of Lap 11 around Aiden MacDonald (York, PE) and cleared Caden Tufts (Timberlea) for the top spot with ten to go in the 25-lap feature.

Two late race cautions, including one that set up a green-white-checkered finish, would not be enough for the field to solve Christensen as he held off all challenges for the win. Owen Mahar (Hubley) would take a look on the opening lap of the final restart but would settle for second. Tufts, who battled tooth and nail with Mahar over the final ten laps, finished third. Campbell Delaney (Halifax) challenged late but would finish fourth with Nate Singer (Kennetcook) in fifth for his second top five of the year.

Heat wins went to Tufts and Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookies Jared Slaunwhite (Terence Bay) and Samantha MacDonald (Halifax). For Slaunwhite, it was his fifth consecutive race meet he was won a heat race, dating back to June on the Weekly Series.

Even a late race challenge from a Pro Stock star couldn’t stop Russell Smith Sr (Lakeside) from taking home his fifth Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman win of the year and a $1200 bounty courtesy of Onsite Heavy Duty Rust Control.

Smith Sr. started tenth in the 18 car field and was able to dodge the opening couple of accidents, one of which sidelined Deven Smith (Lakeside) from the event. On a Lap Six restart, the No. 44 started fourth and was second by Lap Eight to chase down Kyle Bent (Berwick) for the lead. After another rash of cautions, Bent, Smith Sr. and Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro) in a relief role for Dylan Dowe (Bedford), got into line and logged laps. That is until Lap 24 when Bent got loose and Smith Sr. was able to tickle underneath the No. 27 to take the lead. Blenkhorn was able to get second on the exchange and the two raced away from the field.

Blenkhorn was able to storm the entry of the corner quicker than Smith Sr. but even after a couple looks at the back bumper and a last lap move, could not solve Smith Sr. for the win.

Smith Sr. and Blenkhorn were joined by Bent on the podium. Bent was challenged by Darren Hilchie (Lake Charlotte) in the second half of the feature, but Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) was able to get fourth away at the checkered flag of the 40-lap feature contest. Hilchie was fifth.

Heat wins went to Tony Leonard (Goodwood) and Sheldon Pemberton (Dartmouth)
