August 24th: Toursec Twin 50s Night

TOURSEC LIGHTNING

Marshall Bezanson (Oldham) celebrated his second career victory and his biggest so far in the Toursec Lightning 50 on Friday night.

Bezanson started fourth in the 50-lap feature and made the move for the lead on Tyler Hallahan (Elmsdale) within the first five laps of the race. The race would go 50-laps caution free after one caution on the opening lap of the event. The green flag run allowed Bezanson and Travis Keefe (Gold River) to run away from the field and settle the race amongst themselves. Keefe would ultimately cook the brakes a bit quick on the No. 145 car, setting the stage for Bezanson to take home the win.

Steve Matthews (Bedford) was able to get by “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) in the final quarter of the race for the final podium position. Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) brought home fifth in the 13-car field.

The Toursec Lightning 50 took just over 17 minutes to complete.

Heat races were won by Hallahan, who was subbing in for Bruce Larter, and Keefe.

TOURSEC THUNDER

David Hibbs (Middle Sackville) is finally a Thunder on the Hill champion.

Hibbs, who stepped away from the Toursec Thunder division for eight seasons, drove to victory in the caution free 50-lap feature on Friday evening. Hibbs took the convincing win over reigning track champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) and Darren Flemming (Rawdon). Flemming made a late race pass on Jesse Deveau (Greenwood), who also started scratch on the field by virtue of his two feature wins on the year. Neil Miousse (Kentville) was able to hold on to a fifth place finish after fading late in the run.

Hibbs, who has been through four motors in his return to Thunder competition, swept the night by picking up the heat race victory.

STRICTLY HYDRAULICS LEGENDS

For the fifth time in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends division in 2018, it was Meehan holding the checkered flag at the end of the night. Only this time, it was Adam Meehan (Rawdon) bringing home the hardware.

Meehan was able to hold on over Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport) for the win. Cruickshank had to make an incredible save on the final run as he battled with Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) for the win. With the move, Meehan was able to make his way to the front and hold on for his first feature win of the year. Paul Goulden (Shelburne) rallied late for third with Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake) and Lively completing the top five.

Point leaders Emily Meehan (Rawdon) and Shelby Baker (Fall River) were involved in a caution with eight laps to go and were able to rebound for eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 16 car field.

Kody Quinn
(Glace Bay, NS) and Adam Meehan took home heat race victories.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS

Noble Boys Racing had a career night at Scotia Speedworld.

Dawson Noble kicked off the night by driving to victory lane for his first Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero feature win while older brother Colton parked the No. 03 in the same place in the combined Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw/Bandit feature.

The younger Noble won the Beginner Bandolero race after a pair of green-white-checkered finishes failed to end the 15-lap feature under green. Campbell Delaney looked poised to win his first career feature but a spin on the last restart thwarted those plans. Noble was awarded the win after the second failed attempt to finish the race under green with Gage Gilby (Enfield) and Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) on the podium. For MacKay, it was a rebound effort after he rolled his car in Turn Two on the opening laps of the heat race earlier in the evening. Caden Tufts (Halifax) and Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) completed the top five.

Gilby took home the Beginner Bandolero heat race.

Colton completed the sweep for the Upper Nine Mile River based brothers by running away with the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero combined Outlaw/Bandit feature. For Colton Noble, it was his fourth straight top two finish and second win of the season after winning the Season Opener in June.

Behind Noble it was Danny Chisholm (Canning) and Owen Mahar (Hubley) battling for second late in the feature. Chisholm was behind the 8-ball after spinning on the initial start of the race that did not trigger a caution and had driven to the second spot before Mahar got back around Chisholm in the closing laps. Mahar, the top Bandit driver in the field, was second overall with Chisholm third. Nate Singer (Kennetcook) and Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) completed the top five overall.

Mahar and Chisholm won heat races.
