TOURSEC TWIN 50’S ON DECK FOR
THUNDER & LIGHTNING DIVISIONS

(Halifax, NS. August 23, 2018) The Toursec Thunder & Lightning will take centre stage at Scotia Speedworld this week as they do battle for 50 grueling laps in the Toursec Twin 50’s. Joining Atlantic Canada’s best four-cylinders are the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros and the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Grandstand gates open at 5:00pm with CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series action slated for 7:00pm.

The Toursec Thunder & Lightning divisions have produced some of the closest and competitive racing in all of the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series this season. With 50-laps on the board for each class, the extra laps are sure to test man and four cylinder machine as they race for one of their biggest trophies of the year.

The Toursec Lightning division has seen six different winners in eight races, most recently with Dartmouth rookie Matt Barkhouse taking his first checkered flag last Friday night. Steve Matthews (Bedford) leads the championship standings by 23 points on the strength of three wins but “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) has been tuning his car in since he won the first Toursec 50 of the year in June. Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) is having a career year as he enters the Toursec Lightning 50 third in points, ahead of first time feature winners in 2018 in Travis Keefe (Gold River) and Marshall Bezanson (Oldham).

The Toursec Thunder class is led into competition by Jesse Deveau (Greenwood). The former dirt track champion is the most recent feature winner on the Speedworld asphalt and is one of only two multi-time winners in the class in 2018. Reigning division champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) and sophomore Darren Flemming (Rawdon) sit tied for second, just four points behind Deveau with four races remaining in 2018. Neil Miousse (Kentville) and “The Ironman” Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth) are hanging out in the top five in the standings hoping for a surge over the remaining races. In seven races, the class has seen five different winners with Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank) driving to the Toursec Thunder on the Hill 50 back in June.

Joining Scotia Speedworld announcer Tim Terry in the skybox for the call of the Toursec Twin 50s needs little introduction. Kirk Ryan has been a fixture at Scotia Speedworld over the three decades of the track’s existence and most recently has called the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division home. “Mr. Excitement,” who won on CTV Night in May, will deliver fans insight like no other during the Toursec Twin 50s.

Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series is $15 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15yrs), children seven and under are free all season at Scotia Speedworld! For complete schedule and event information please visit www.scotiaspeedworld.ca
