August 16th: ACE Lumbermart Twin 50

ACE LUMBERMART LIGHTNING
Smith Brothers Racing once again wound up in victory lane, but this time it was the older brother filling his hand of ACE Lumbermart 50s.

Jorden Smith of Lakeside captured his fifth consecutive ACE Lumbermart 50 on Friday night by outrunning his younger brother Deven. Deven, who is in his first season of racing at Scotia Speedworld, had to hold off division veteran Richie Moore (Elmsdale), who was gunning for his first Ace Lumbermart 50 feature win but would have to settle for the third place spot. Marc MacMillan (Glenholme) made a charge to the front on a late restart to finish fourth while sophomore Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) bested point leader B.J. Nicholson (Beaverbank) for the fifth place spot.

MacDonald and Deven Smith took victories in the 10-lap heat races for the 19 car field.

Next up for the ACE Lumbermart Lightning cars is Strictly Hydraulics Night on Friday, August 23rd.

ACE LUMBERMART THUNDER
Stevie Lively (Shubenacadie) made his return to Scotia Speedworld count as he went to victory lane in the ACE Lumbermart 50 on Friday.

It wasn’t easy for the 2010 champion in the #32 Hubley Auto Sales Civic though as he had to outrace Kyle Gammon (Mount Uniacke), who kept him on his toes as they raced side-by-side for a majority of the 50 lap duration. In the end, Gammon would end up flunking post race technical inspection, giving second to Matthew Warren (White’s Lake), who took the point lead after a parts failure on the Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) entry. Tim Webster, former three-time Thunder on the Hill winner, brought his #86 car home in third. Ross Harvie (Kennetcook) made his first start of the season count by finishing in fourth while Tylor Hawes (Sheet Harbour) finished fifth, subbing in for Jordan Pirri (West Chezzetcook).

J.R. Lawson (Shubenacadie) and Webster each took heat race wins. A season high 22 drivers took the green flag for the extended feature.

The ACE Lumbermart Thunder car division is back in action on Friday for Strictly Hydraulics Night.

COORS LIGHT TRUCKS
The self proclaimed “old man” didn’t miss a beat in his return Friday night.

Jim MacMillan (Halifax) drove his #22 Darkhorse Auto Haulers Dodge to victory lane in his first start of the season in the Coors Light Truck division. MacMillan, a feature winner in 2012, set sail early in the feature and crossed the line first in the 20-lap event ahead of Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage) and Dan Smith (Lower Sackville), who gained three more points in the championship over fourth place finisher Ryan Goldsmith (Bridgewater). One of Jim’s sons Cale MacMillan (Halifax) came home in the fifth place spot while his youngest son at the track Chris Smith (Truro) made his debut on Friday in a Coors Light Truck.

For the first time this season, two heat races had to be run to qualify for the feature, which were won by Jim MacMillan and Fenton.

The Coors Light Trucks will continue their season Friday during Strictly Hydraulics Night.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS
Adam Meehan (Rawdon) has matched his car number in feature wins this season.

Meehan, in the #6 Drive Products - Ocean Truck Equipment Bandolero, captured his sixth feature win of the season in the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros Friday, outrunning Braden Langille for 14.75 laps of the race. Langille, from Shubenacadie, wound up spinning off Turn Four as he tried to get a bit more out of his car in the final corner to catch Meehan. Langille, who was second in points entering the night, came out of the feature Friday night scored in ninth.

Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie) continues to build momentum by capturing another podium run with a second place finish on Friday night with sophomores Craig MacDonald (Waverley) and Nicholas Naugle (Halifax) shadowing Tanner to the stripe. Joshua Langille (Coldbook) came home with a popular top five finish in his #18 car, which was the main course to a heat race victory to kick off the afternoon. Braden Langille, no relation, went to victory lane in the second qualifier.

The Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros enter an offweek but will return to the track on Friday, August 30th for Fan Appreciation Night.
