Addison Veinotte (Porters Lake) grabbed her third win of the season in the Bluenose Pools Beginner Bandolero division – but she had to break the heart of Brandon McGrath (Antigonish) to do so.

McGrath took the lead from Shelby Chisholm (Antigonish) at the completion of the opening lap of the 12-lap feature. Veinotte, Chisholm and Jake Campbell (Sydney) stayed tucked up tight most of the race, even as they navigated lapped traffic. The field was looking for the checkered flag but not before the caution flag flew on the final lap between Ryan Chisholm (Antigonish) and Sarah Vandenburg (Lower Onslow).

The green-white-checkered finish saw McGrath and Veinotte go side-by-side for the two laps and while it looked like for most of the feature it was going to be McGrath grabbing his first feature win, Veinotte got the run out of Turn Four enough to edge McGrath out by inches. Campbell finished third with Chisholm and Adlee Lively (Middle Sackville) fifth.

Chisholm and Vandenburg picked up the wins in the heat races.

Veinotte closed the gap to seven points on Chisholm with just a few races remaining on the season.

He thought he lost it – but the magic for multi-time champion Dave Matthews (Nine Mile River) still remains at his home track.

After a couple tough weeks on the road, Matthews took home his first feature win of the season in the Toursec Mini Stock division. Matthews started ninth in the feature and drove by the outside of fellow former Thunder driver Jason Pickles (Meaghers Grant) for the lead on Lap 10. Pickles held second until Lap 16 when Ross Moore (Lake Egmont) and Steven Matthews (Bedford) made the move on the No. 0 car. By that time, the pair was almost a straightaway behind Dave Matthews.

As the Mystery Machine worked over lapped traffic, it was not enough for the field to catch the No. 99 in what ended up being another caution free feature for the Mini Stocks. Dave Matthews held on with Steven Matthews getting by Moore in the closing laps. Travis Keefe (Gold River) got by Pickles in the final lap to take home fourth place.

Pickles, Dave Matthews and Dave Jollimore (Halifax) took home heat race victories.

What does a Pro Stock driver do on an off-week?! They go Legend racing.

Gage Gilby (Enfield) was at the top of his game as he returned to the Strictly Hydraulics Legend division. Gilby took home the 25-lap feature on Labour Day Weekend, his first in three local starts this season.

The night looked to belong to Danny Chisholm (Port Williams) as he drove the ride usually piloted by Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) to a heat win and a huge lead early in the feature. A spin on Lap 13 with Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Daniel Vandenburg (Lower Onslow) and Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth) would evaporate the lead Chisholm had on the field at the halfway point.

An odd-pitch from the No. 89 car didn’t seem to slow down Chisholm as Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) chased down the Nova Construction ride – until it seemingly did. The field caught Chisholm before he went for a spin out of Turn Four by himself on Lap 19.

Gilby would line up alongside Langille and would storm to the lead with five to go. Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) was able to get by Langille on the second last lap to take home second place. Langille was third, his brother Josh was fourth followed by “The Springhill Smoke” Chase Livingston.

Heats were won by Chisholm, Gilby and Aiden MacDonald (York, PE). MacDonald ended the streak of five consecutive heat wins by leafing Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Jared Slaunwhite (Terence Bay)

On paper, it was a wire-to-wire performance for Matt Vaughan (Lantz) to become the first driver not from Smith Brothers Racing to win a Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman feature in 2024.

In theory, it was easy. Start up front by virtue of the first Tim’s Corner Motorsports/WingNut Productions heat race, lead all the laps, avoid traffic and pull away from the field. Behind the No. 08 Aerotec Engines Chevrolet though, it was, at points, controlled chaos during the Fourth Annual AJK 50.

The opening ten laps went without interruption until a caution from a stalled Wade Slauenwhite (Beaver Bank). From there, a couple restarts presented some wild racing and some crashes – including one on a restart that saw 2022 winner Pete Miller (East Gore) getting checked up and collecting Kyle Bent (Berwick), Chad Sinton (Truro), Scott O’Neill (Oakfield) and Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour). Two laps later, O’Neill and Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) got into it which resulted in extra curriculars under caution.

On the ensuing restart, Russell Smtih Sr. (Lakeside) tagged the wall off Turn Four, effectively ending the Smith Brothers Racing streak.

Once the division got the crazy shaken out of the field, the AJK 50 would go from Lap 14 to the finish without interruption. Vaughan and Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) would lead Alex Johnson (Enfield) and Sheldon Pemberton (Cole Harbour) to green on what would be the final restart of the night. Dylan Dowe (Bedford) would be the driver on the move, working over Johnson by the halfway point and was patient until he had to make a move. Dowe successfully passed the No. 14 Celtic Air Services Chevrolet with five to go and worked up to Lively for the runner-up spot but could not get by before the checkered flag flew.

Vaughan would win by over a full straightaway over Lively and Dowe, who were side by side at the checkered flag. Johnson and Pemberton completed the top five in the 19 car field.

Tim’s Corner Motorsports/WingNut Productions heat races were won by O’Neill, Lively and Vaughan.
