CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series Champions To Be Crowned Friday Night

(Halifax, NS. September 11, 2019) Scotia Speedworld’s CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series will close its 32nd season this Friday at 7:00pm. Seven divisions will battle for the final time on the oval this season, the Toursec Thunder & Lightning, Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Strictly Hydraulics Legends and Sportsman. Grandstands will open at 5:00pm with racing action slated for 7:00pm.

The championship pictures across the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series varies from drivers who can just fire their motors to seal titles to those who will have to fight every lap to take home the prestigious titles. With both heat racing and feature events paying points, every single lap of competition will count for something on Finale Friday.

The smallest cushion in the point standings comes with the Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero division. Three drivers who each entered 2019 without a feature win will race for a championship on Friday evening. Emily Chisholm (Antigonish), a four time winner and winner of the last two features in the class, has a one point advantage over three time feature winner Miles MacKenzie (Porter’s Lake). After an early spin last week, Caden Tufts (Timberlea) finds himself as the third driver in this point battle but with only eight points being the difference he is still well within contention with one night to go.

The season long power struggle atop the Strictly Hydraulics Legends standings will come down to ten lap heats and a 25-lap feature on Friday night. Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) could be considered an underdog in the battle but has the lead by six points. Lively, a third year Legend driver, has never won a Legend feature at Scotia Speedworld but consistency has put him on top after 11 races. Six of those 11 races have been won by Braden Langille (Shubenacadie) and he enters tied for second, six points behind Lively, with Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake). Hawes won his feature during the Toromont Cat 250 weekend and will look to add a championship to his trophy case after Friday evening. Only Langille enters with multiple wins in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends division in 2019.

Three drivers enter Finale Friday with a realistic chance of cruising to a CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series track championship but still have some work to do. Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) will look to nail down his second straight Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw track title with a podium feature finish on Friday. His point lead is 18 over Danny Chisholm (Canning) and 21 over Nathan Langille (Coldbrook).Gage Gilby (Enfield), the 2018 Beginner Bandolero champion, must finish at least second, regardless what Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) does on Friday night, to clinch the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Bandit championship. Even with rear end issues during Fleet Brake Atlantic Night, Deven Smith (Lakeside) still remains in control of the Sportsman standings and can race to a championship on Friday evening with anything better than a sixth place finish in the final 38-lap feature of the season.

Based on their field sizes throughout the season, all “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) and Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) will have to do is start their respective feature events to clinch their first championships at Scotia Speedworld. Drake, who has multi-time Thunder champion Ken Zwicker as his crew chief, has a more than comfortable 73 point advantage on Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) in the Toursec Lightning championship standings. Deveau, a former track champion at the Valley Raceway dirt track, enters Finale Friday with a 34 point cushion in the Toursec Thunder class over three-time division champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook).

While not all mathematically clinched, the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year chases seemed to be all but firmed up heading into Finale Friday. Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth) leads Devin Wadden (Hammonds Plains) by 39 points in the freshman chase in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Ashley Stevens (Dartmouth) has a 56 point cushion on Roy Christian (Stewiacke) in the Toursec Lightning division. Brett Pashkoski (Beaver Bank) has a comfortable 26 point lead in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero rookie race over Chase Livingston (Springhill). The only Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year Award that has been claimed is in the Toursec Thunder class, where Stephan Somerset will be taking the freshman title back to Nictaux.

Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series Finale is $15.00 for adults, $5.00 youth (8-15 years old) and kids 7 and under are FREE!

Due to Hurricane Dorian the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Season Finale, the Atlantic Oliver Tire 200 has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 28th at 4:00pm at Scotia Speedworld. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, $8.00 for youth (8-15 years old). Pit admission for those 18+ is $35.00.
