June 28th: Kiddie Rides Night

TOURSEC THUNDER
It took Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) only four races at Scotia Speedworld to dial in his new racecar enough to win a Toursec Thunder main feature.

The multi-time Toursec Thunder car champion was able to move past Greg McKay (Eastern Passage) for the lead at the halfway point, then drove to the win as Annapolis Valley drivers Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) and Neil Miousse (Kentville) batted hard for second behind him. Miousse was able to cross the line in second after a spirited battle with Deveau but would fail post race technical inspection, giving the runner-up spot to Deveau. Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie), who flirted with a top five finish for most of the 25-lap main, raced to a third place finish. Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth) and Mark Williams (Elmsdale), both of whom made their first starts of the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series season, finished fourth and fifth.
Matthews and McKay picked up heat wins in the 11 car field.

SPORTSMAN
Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) became the first two time winner in the Sportsman division Friday night during Kiddie Night.

Veinotte, the reigning Sportsman track champion at Scotia Speedworld, was able to pass Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) prior to the halfway point and extended his lead over the second half to take a convincing victory in what has turned into a heavyweight battle at the front of the field. For a third straight week, the balance of the podium was made up by Deven Smith (Lakeside) and Matt Vaughan (Bedford). Parrott was able to race to her best feature finish of the season with a fourth place effort while Darren Hilchie (Lake Charlotte) scored his second straight top five feature finish by coming home fifth.

Veinotte and Alex Johnson (Enfield) scored qualifying heat race wins in the prelude to the 25th Annual Shriners Classic next Friday night.

TOURSEC LIGHTNING

When the dust settled on the race track, it was the story of a winner who turned around early season terrible luck in the Toursec Lightning division. The same can be said after post race technical inspection, but the driver in that role had changed.

On track, reigning Toursec Lightning champion Steve Matthews (Bedford) dominated the 25-lap feature. After winning his heat race, Matthews drove away by a half track in the caution free feature. Matthews had suffered numerous mechanical issues and accidents after his first podium finish on Week One but had seemingly put that all behind him with a convincing victory.
That was, until post race technical inspection.

Marshall Bezanson (Oldham) was second in both the first heat and the feature event and would ultimately inherit both victories at the completion of the night. Bezanson’s season started with an opening lap wreck in a heat race on Opening Day and only had one podium finish in the previous four races to kick off 2019. Bezanson was able to pull away for what would end up being the battle for second as sophomore Paige Drake (Halifax) was able to hold off Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) in a last lap scramble for the spot.

The most intriguing battle in the caution free event was between no less than a half dozen of some of the strongest cars and drivers in the field. Jamie Dillman had the third place spot for several laps before Barkhouse and Travis Keefe (Timberlea) were able to race by the No. 158. Keefe was able to race to fourth while Dillman held off all challengers for his second top five feature finish of 2019.

Mike Jollimore (Harrietsfield) and Bezanson scored heat race wins.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BEGINNER BANDOLEROS

Campbell Delaney (Halifax) showed veteran prowess in the Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero division as he pocketed his second consecutive feature victory of the season.

Delaney and Caden Tufts (Timberlea) once again battled for the win with Delaney able to slide under Tufts when he went wide out of Turn Four in the final five laps of the 15-lap feature. Tufts would race to a strong second place run with Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) coming from the back of the field in the second half of the race after a roof hinge broke on her No. 89 Nova Construction Bandolero to finish third. Chase Livingston (Springhill) scored a career best fourth place finish in the feature with Emma MacMillan (Noel) rounding out the top five.

While point leader Miles MacKenzie (Porter’s Lake) suffered misfortune in the feature and did not finish the main, he did pick up the heat race win in the class.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDITS

Gage Gilby (Enfield) continued his dominant run in the Hydraulics Plus Bandit division with his fourth feature win of the season in five races. Gilby, who left Kiddie Night with a 25-point lead, was able to race to his fourth victory over Ayden Chistensen (Windsor Junction) and Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River). Christensen had a spirited battle coming through the field with Brooke Dowe (Bedford), who would finish fourth on the night with Morgan Mosher (Mahone Bay) bringing home a solid fifth place finish after racing for the win in the heat race.

Christensen picked up the victory in the Bandit heat race.

HYDRAULICS PLUS OUTLAWS
It had to happen at some point, but the Hydraulics Plus Outlaws finally have their first repeat winner of 2019.

Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) drove the No. 3 Kings of Nova Scotia Bandolero to his second victory of the season and second straight victory of his season. After Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) drove the car during FanFest, Langille was able to back up his third week victory with one in week five. Owen Mahar (Hubley) raced to his third podium finish in five races with a second place run while Dylan Dowe’s (Bedford) speed was converted to a third place finish. Danny Chisholm (Canning) was fourth with Austin Tanner (Shubenacadie) scoring his second straight top five of the year.

Mahar captured the heat race win.
