CARSTAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES CONTINUES THIS FRIDAY AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD
(Halifax, NS. July 10, 2019) Just one race remains on the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series schedule before the mid-season break. This Friday fans will see four divisions battling on the oval including; the Toursec Thunder & Lightning, Sportsman and the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Admission is just $15.00 for Adults; Youth (8-15) are $5.00 and children 7 and under are free! Tickets are available at the gate on race day (cash only). Grandstand gates open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00 PM.
It might only be July, but ask any of the point leading drivers in the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series and they’ll tell you the big picture is just as important as the immediate future heading into Friday night. In fact, of the four divisions racing on Friday at Scotia Speedworld, the biggest margin any championship leader has is four points.
After Deven Smith (Lakeside) etched his name into history as a Shriners’ Classic Champion last week, the championship point lead for reigning Sportsman track champion Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) has shrunk to a single point. “The Big Three” in the division has also seen Matt Vaughan (Bedford) finish on every podium this year and sits ten points off Veinotte in third.
Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) has taken the Toursec Lightning point lead after six events in the 2019 season, leading by a single point over “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax), who has three wins on the season. Their four cylinder Honda counterparts in the Toursec Thunder division return on Friday night after their off-week and have a similar point picture. Following the most recent race, Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) has moved to the point lead with his feature win from Kiddie Rides Night. One is the wild number, as Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie) is just a single point off the mark of Matthews with Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) three points off their mark in an early replay of the 2018 championship battle.
Emily Meehan’s (Rawdon, NS) point lead shrunk to three points after last week’s Strictly Hydraulics Legends feature. With Meehan away, she will hand the wheel over to her brother Adam for this Friday’s race as he’ll try to fend off the likes of Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville), most recent feature winner Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea), Josh Langille (Coldbrook) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake).
Sportsman fans mark your calendars as Friday, August 2nd will feature not one but two Sportsman Features! The Sportsman feature that was fogged out on May 31st has been rescheduled for August 2nd. The Sportsman will run the make-up feature first and then return to the track later in the evening for their regular scheduled feature.
