SPORTSMAN
HELDOVER FEATURE
At the start of the night, at least on paper, the Sportsman division gave fans the status quo after almost a month off.
Deven Smith (Lakeside) led “The Big Three” to another checkered flag in the heldover feature from May 31st. Smith took the lead just prior to halfway in the 38-lap feature and held court in the second half for his third feature win of the season. Smith raced to the line ahead of Matt Vaughan (Bedford) and Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake). Jeffrey Breen (Antigonish) ran in the top three for most of the first feature but had to settle for fourth while Darren Hilchie (Lake Charlotte) continued his solid season with a fifth place finish.
CNAF NIGHT FEATURE
While the challengers changed spots behind him like a game of musical chairs, Alex Johnson (Enfield) stayed solid up front en route to his first career Late Model Sportsman win at Scotia Speedworld. Much like the first feature of the evening, Johnson battled with Jeffrey Breen up front only this time the pair hanging on for a 1-2 finish. Matt Vaughan, with a right side laced with battle scars, finished third with Scott O’Neill (Oakfield) scoring a career best fourth place finish in a Late Model. Deven Smith closed the evening with a top five finish, coming home fifth.
Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) and Johnson took home heat race victories.
TOURSEC THUNDER
After losing a close friend during the week, Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) was Racing for Jason on Friday night. Deveau did not disappoint, taking home a convincing win in the Toursec Thunder feature on CNAF Night. Deveau raced to the win ahead of a returning Matthew Warren (White’s Lake) and Dave Matthews (Kennetcook). Matthews ran second before his car temporarily lost power, letting Warren take the runner-up spot and had Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie) challenging for third at the finish. Greg McKay (Eastern Passage) brought the No. 42 across the line at the end of 25-laps in fifth.
Taylor McLean (New Glasgow), who did not start the feature the week prior with motor issues, took home his first heat race victory of the season to kick off the evening for the class.
TOURSEC LIGHTNING
When it appeared that Jamie Dillman (Lantz) was going to make a triumphant return to victory lane on Friday night, Steve Matthews (Bedford) came from behind to score his third consecutive Toursec Lightning feature win. Matthews led the final two laps, getting under the No. 158 after Dillman set the pace for the first 23 circuits of the event. Dillman held on to second at the finish with Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) putting the No. 172 on the podium in third for the second straight week. Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) rebounded from the week prior to finish fourth while Marshall Bezanson (Lake Egmont) was fifth at the end of 25-laps.
Sophomore Paige Drake (Halifax) and Garth Bezanson (Lake Egmont) took home checkered flags in heat race competition.
STRICTLY HYDRAULICS LEGENDS
When the chips were down on the table, Braden Langille (Shubenacadie) pushed all in to take home his fourth win of the Strictly Hydraulics Legends season in thrilling fashion. Langille caught up to the battling Paul Goulden (Shelburne) and Cole Butcher (driving for Emily Meehan, Hantsport) and was able to finesse his way by the pair, ultimately only leading one lap to capture the checkered flag.
When Langille got underneath Goulden for the lead in Turn Two on the final lap, it allowed the reigning Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion to follow Langille through. Butcher would edge out Goulden, the defending Strictly Hydraulics Legends track champion, for second. Josh Langille (Coldbrook) continued his solid season with a fourth place finish, followed by Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) in fifth.
Goulden and point leader Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) picked up checkered flags in qualifying heat races.
