August 23rd: Toursec Twin 50s Night

TOURSEC LIGHTNING 50

In one of the closest finishes of the year at Scotia Speedworld, Marshall Bezanson (Oldham) was able to edge out his second career Toursec 50 victory in the Toursec Lightning class at Scotia Speedworld.

Bezanson dominated the first two thirds of the event until a caution with 14 laps to go tightened up the field and brought a challenger to the outside in “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax). The two swapped the lead five times at the line over the final 14 circuits with Bezanson taking the final lead change on the final lap. Drake would have to settle for second in the race with Jamie Dillman (Lantz) recording a third straight podium finish after holding off Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke). A returning Travis Keefe (Timberlea) came across the line in fifth in the 18-car field.

Rick Stein and Bruce Larter (Halifax) took home heat race victories.

With Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) retiring on Lap Five after a right front wheel left the HellKitty, Drake opens a big 49 point lead on the field with three events to go in the season.

TOURSEC THUNDER 50
Neil Miousse (Kentville) took home the biggest win of his career with his first win in a Thunder on the Hill race. Miousse took the lead from Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) after Matthews experienced electrical issues with a suspected bad ground somewhere in his No. 99 SDC Honda Civic. Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) extended his point lead with a second place finish while Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie) crossed the line in third but would not pass post race technical inspection. What was the spirited battle for fourth became a battle for third at the end of the night with Jason Pickles (Meaghers Grant) edging out Greg McKay (Eastern Passage) for the first podium finish for Pickles in 2019.

Matthews, who won the heat race to kick off the night, place fifth in the Toursec 50.

STRICTLY HYDRAULICS LEGENDS
A close battle up front, combined with a scramble around two of the point leaders late in the feature, led Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) back to victory lane at Scotia Speedworld. Farrell made the winning move in the Strictly Hydraulics Legends feature on Josh Langille (Coldbrook) inside ten laps to go and held on for his first Legend car win of the 2019 season. Langille, who was in search of his first career Legend victory, fell short in second with Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke), who led the opening laps of the 25-lap affair, was third.
Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) and Braden Langille (Shubenacadie) recovered to fourth and fifth, respectively, after the pair briefly hooked bumpers on the back straight in the second half of the feature.

Heat race winners included Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie contender Tanner Spinney (Greenwood) and two-time and defending track champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne). For Spinney, it was his first checkered flag in a Legend car and first race back since his rollover in Turn Four.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLERO OUTLAW

Danny Chisholm (Canning) wasted little time in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw feature getting to the front of the field and ultimately scoring his third feature victory of the 2019 season.

Chisholm made a three wide move for the lead in the early laps and held on over the 15-laps to take the win convincingly over heat race winner Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) and a returning Owen Mahar (Hubley). After post race technical inspection, the No. 66 would not be credited with his finish, giving Nathan Langille (Coldbrook) the third place trophy. Nate Singer (Kennetcook) and Dylan MacMillan (Noel) raced to top five finishes.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLERO BANDITS

After almost everyone jumped in the pool on the final restart of the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Bandit feature, Morgan Mosher (Mahone Bay) emerged as the winner for his first career feature triumph.

In a caution filled feature, the final restart would be the one and only attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. The leaders would go three wide coming to the green, creating two separate incidents within one wreck as the field came crashing towards the green flag. Race officials called the spin filled race at that point and gave Mosher the victory. Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction), who missed the wreck to the inside, was credited with second with the other four cars being marked as caution cars. Gage Gilby (Enfield), who led the field to the final green flag, was scored third, followed by Chase MacKay (Bear Cove), Brooke Dowe (Bedford) and Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River).

Gilby, the point leader, captured his third heat race victory to kick off Toursec Night for the Bandits.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BEGINNER BANDOLEROS
In a competitive Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero field on Toursec Night, it was Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) taking home the win. Chisholm took the lead on Lap Six of a relatively clean 15-lap feature and pulled away from Caden Tufts (Timberlea) for her third victory of the season, tying Miles MacKenzie (Porter’s Lake) for the most in the class for 2019. Tufts would finish second, followed by Chase Livingston (Springhill), who scored his third podium finish in the last four races to close up the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie battle with fourth place finisher Brett Pashkoski. Daniel Vandenburg (Glenholme) continues to gain speed every week and would wind up fifth on Toursec Night.

Chisholm would sweep the night, taking home the heat win.

The two three in the championship are separated by two points with two races to go. Tufts and Mackenzie are tied at the top of the standings with Chisholm in third, only two points behind!
