September 7th: Molson Night
HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS
Beginner Bandolero
As several contenders found trouble, Gage Gilby (Enfield) glided to his seventh Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero victory.
After a Lap Three crash that saw the likes of Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River), Emily Chisholm (Antigonish), Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) and Caden Tufts (Timberlea) being swept up, Gilby was able to dodge the smoke and ultimately drive off for the win after taking the lead following the restart. Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) continued his solid late season run to finish second in the feature with Campbell Delaney (Halifax) completing the podium. Miles MacKenzie scored his best career feature finish with a fourth place run, followed by Emma MacMillan (Glenholme) in fifth.
Gilby won the heat race.
With a 54 point lead, Gilby will only need to start the feature to win his first Scotia Speedworld track championship.
Outlaw/Bandit
Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) has held a hot hand to open September and continued his run to open the month with a win at Scotia Speedworld.
Rogers, who also won his heat race, capitalized as Danny Chisholm (Canning) and Dylan Dowe (Bedford) raced hard for the lead. Rogers crossed the line first ahead of Chisholm, point leader Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River), Dowe and Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth), who scored his fourth straight Outlaw top five.
Owen Mahar (Hubley), who won his heat race, was the top Bandit in the feature in sixth overall. Brooke Dowe (Bedford) was eighth overall and second in Bandit. Morgan Mosher (Mahone Bay) retired early and was credited with third in Bandit.
TOURSEC LIGHTNING
After eight races, “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax), not only returned to the podium but to victory lane at Scotia Speedworld in the Toursec Lightning division.
It wasn’t easy for Drake as he had to hold off the reigning division champion in Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood) as the No. 169 closed late and challenged for the win in the 25-lap feature. Matthew Barkhouse (Dartmouth) held off point leader Steve Matthews (Bedford) for third with Mike Jollimore (Halifax) scoring his second straight fifth place finish.
Jollimore and Barkhouse took home heat race victories.
TOURSEC THUNDER
Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) stormed to the front in the Toursec Thunder division feature and with only one race to go will enter Finale Friday presented by Classic Freight as the point leader in the class.
Deveau made the winning pass on his closest rival in the championship battle in Darren Flemming (Belnan) to take his third feature win of the season. Flemming would finish second with Neil Miousse (Kentville) racing to a third place podium finish. Nic Baker (Middle Sackville) fell one spot short of a podium finish with a strong fourth place finish ahead of “The Ironman” Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth).
Heat race winner Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) brought out the first caution flag of the evening for a flat tire after contact on the opening lap of the feature. Matthews would be called by race officials for speeding on pit road and was black flagged. Matthews returned to the track and would ultimately draw the second caution of the race for ignoring the black flag and was disqualified from the night. The penalty drops Matthews to sixth in points and out of championship contention.
STRICTLY HYDRAULICS LEGENDS
Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) made quick work of his competition at Scotia Speedworld on Friday night.
The INEX Pro driver won his heat race on Molson Night, started third and drove to the lead in the opening laps to win his second feature at Scotia Speedworld on the season.
A quick late race caution would reset the field three laps to go and give Craig MacDonald (Waverley) a chance at Hall. MacDonald, who was substituting for Ray Cox Jr (Porter’s Lake) was unable to handle Hall on the final restart as the No. 08 Total Lubricants Legend sprinted out to the lead. MacDonald crossed the line in second but would not pass post race technical inspection, handing Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport) a second place finish with Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke) grabbing his first podium of the year in third.
Paul Goulden (Shelburne) closed the gap in the point standings with a fourth place feature finish with Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) racing to a fifth place finish. With Shelby Baker (Fall River) finishing in 11th on the night and point leader Emily Meehan (Rawdon) placing ninth, the reigning track champion has closed the championship advantage to three points on Meehan.
Hall and Shane Lively (Middle Sackville) took home heat race victories.
AFFORDABLE FUELS SPORTSMAN
For the second time this season, a Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie contender drove to victory lane at Scotia Speedworld in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division.
Deven Smith (Lakeside), the leader in the rookie standings, made the move early in the 38-lap feature and drove away from Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) and the field for his first Late Model victory. The feature saw a 30+ lap green flag run to the finish, putting to test the drivers in Scotia Speedworld’s top class.
Parrott would run second into the second half of the event before Richard Salter (Centre Burlington) drove to the second spot where he would finish. Alex Johnson (Enfield) put the rookie to the test and ultimately took third and was closing on Salter when the checkered flag flew. Parrott settled for fourth with point leader Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) in fifth of 16 in the penultimate feature of the season.
Smith and Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Darren Hilchie (Lake Charlotte) captured 10-lap heat race wins.
