CARSTAR WEEKLY RACING SERIES CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED FRIDAY NIGHT

(Halifax, NS. September 12, 2018) Scotia Speedworld’s CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series will close its 31st season this Friday at 7:00pm. Six divisions will battle for the final time on the oval this season, the Toursec Thunder & Lightning, Hydraulics Plus Bandit & Outlaw Bandoleros, Strictly Hydraulics Legends and the Affordable Fuels Sportsman. Grandstands will open at 5:00pm with racing action slated for 7:00pm.

The Weekly Racing Series Season Finale is presented by Classic Freight Transport, located in Dartmouth. The championship pictures across the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series varies from drivers who can just fire their motors to seal titles to those who will have to fight every lap to take home the prestigious titles. With both heat racing and feature events paying points, every single lap of competition will count for something on Finale Friday.

In the Hydraulics Plus Beginner and Bandit Bandolero divisions, Gage Gilby (Enfield) and Owen Mahar (Hubley) must only start their features to complete championship runs. The picture is a lot less clear in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw division. While Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) has a 14 point lead, the cushion isn’t comfortable should something happen to the No. 03 car during Friday night’s program. Former champion Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) and Danny Chisholm (Canning) sit lying in wait should the elder of the Noble brothers hiccup on Friday.

Steve Matthews (Bedford) has had the car to beat every week in the Toursec Lightning division and his consistency has him entering the final race meet with a 26 point lead on “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax). To avoid a tiebreaker with Drake, Matthews will have to finish eighth or better in the feature, regardless of heat finish, to win the championship.

Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) has been on the cusp of winning the Affordable Fuels Sportsman championship before and enters Friday night with a 22 point lead on Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie Deven Smith (Lakeside) and a 23 point lead on reigning champion Matt Vaughan (Bedford). Regardless of heat placement, Veinotte can clinch his first Sportsman track championship at Scotia Speedworld with a sixth place finish.

With the point gaps being single digit totals between drivers in both the Toursec Thunder and Strictly Hydraulics Legend divisions, there are no “clinch scenarios” leading into Friday’s finale because of points given for heat race finishes. It is a two horse race in the Toursec Thunder division with Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) leading Darren Flemming (Belnan) by six points heading into the final race of the year. Both drivers won their first Toursec Thunder features earlier this year and barring any unforeseen circumstance, one will win their first track title at Scotia Speedworld.

In the Strictly Hydraulics Legend division, the championship bout is a four corner battle between Emily Meehan (Rawdon), reigning champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne), former Bandolero champion Shelby Baker (Fall River) and multi-time Thunder car feature winner Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville). Goulden has cut the margin to three points between he and Meehan, who has won four feature events this season aboard the No. 75 car. Baker, 18 points back, and Lively, 22 points behind, enter as the long shots in the championship battle but should Meehan and Goulden misstep on Friday, the door would be wide open for Baker and Lively to pounce.

Nicole Richard (Belnan – Strictly Hydraulics Legends), Paige Drake (Halifax – Toursec Lightning), Brooke Dowe (Bedford - Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Bandit) and Gilby (Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Beginner) have all officially clinched Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year Awards regardless of what transpires Friday evening. Colton Noble (Hydraulics Plus Bandolero Outlaw) will seal the freshman award in his class by starting the feature on Friday evening with Deven Smith holding a manageable 41 point advantage on Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank) with one race to go in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie of the Year chase.

Saturday the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will close out their 2018 campaign at Scotia Speedworld with the Dartmouth Dodge 200. One driver will walk away with the prestigious Series title and a $10,000 cheque! Qualifying for the Dartmouth Dodge 200 gets underway with Atlantic Tiltload heat races at 4:00PM. The Maritime League of Legends will run a 50 lap feature prior to the much anticipated Pro Stock Tour finale.

Admission for the CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series Finale is $15.00 for adults; $5.00 for youth (8-15 years old). Weekend passes are also available. Adult grandstand weekend passes are $35.00, pits $40.00. Children 7 and under are admitted for free. Tickets will be available at the gates on race day (cash only).
