June 22nd: AMP Energy Night

AFFORDABLE FUELS SPORTSMAN

Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) is now two for two at Scotia Speedworld in the last two Affordable Fuels Sportsman features.

Veinotte worked his way from the back of the field and wasted little time getting to the front of the 17 car field. Veinotte had to battle Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie contender Deven Smith (Lakeside) en route to victory lane. Smith led the most laps in the feature and had a career run to finish second on the night. Matt Vaughan (Bedford), reigning champion of the division, brought his car home third. Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) and Alex Johnson (Enfield) drove their Fords to top five finishes when the checkered flag fell on the 38-lap feature.

Darren Wallage (Oakfield) and Johnson took home heat race wins.

STRICTLY HYDRAULICS LEGENDS
After the dust and sparks settled on 25-laps of Strictly Hydraulics Legends action, it was Shelby Baker (Fall River) taking home his first win of the season.

Baker experienced some slight motor issues at the start of the season but had the No. 53 hooked up as he battled Adam Meehan (Rawdon) for most of the feature as the pair worked their way through the field. The final pass for the lead was on a restart on Lap 22 when Baker made the outside move on Shane Lively (Middle Sackville). The roles were reversed two laps later as a Lap 24 caution would set up a green-white-checkered finish. Lively was unable to retake the lead and had to settle for third as Meehan drove the team’s No. 75 car to the runner up spot.

Paul Goulden (Shelbune) barely missed out on the podium for the fourth time in the season and wound up coming home fourth in the feature with Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) placing fifth.

Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport) and Danny Harvey (Lantz) took home Legend car heat races. Both found trouble in the feature in separate incidents. Harvey would get the worst in his after slapping the wall in the battle for the lead inside of five laps to go.

TOURSEC LIGHTNING

Reigning Toursec Lightning champion Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood) may be on a part time schedule in 2018 but he is sure making the most of it.

Thibodeau drove to his first win of the year on AMP Energy Night. The No. 169 car was able to get through the field first and made the move on Jamie Dillman (Carrolls Corner) for the lead at the halfway point and held off a determined Steve Matthews (Bedford) for the victory. Matthews and Dillman joined Thibodeau on the podium and for Dillman it was his first podium finish of the season. Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) challenged late for the podium but finished fourth, just ahead of “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) within the top five.

Dillman and Tom Stewart (Stewiacke) took away heat race victories for the Toursec Lightning class.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BEGINNER BANDOLEROS
For Gage Gilby (Enfield), his second feature victory at Scotia Speedworld was a bit less nerve wracking than the first.

Gilby pointed his No. 25 car out front early and was able to hold off Dawson Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) for his second win in just four career Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero races. Chase MacKay (Bear Cove) continued his consistent season with his third straight podium finish in as many races, finishing AMP Energy Night in third place. Campbell Delaney (Halifax) just missed the top three with a fourth place finish with Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) completing the top five.

Dawson Noble won the eight lap qualifier for the Beginner Bandoleros.

HYDRAULICS PLUS BANDOLEROS
Josh Langille (Coldbrook) took home the Combined Outlaw/Bandit Hydraulics Plus Bandolero feature on Friday night after a lot of hard racing between the young stars of the sport at Scotia Speedworld. Langille drove through a Turn Two shuffle on Lap Six that took out Owen Mahar (Hubley) and Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) and held on over Danny Chisholm (Canning) for Langille’s first overall win on the year and second in the Outlaw division.

Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) joined Langille and Chisholm on the podium with Nate Singer (Kennetcook) and Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth) completing the Outlaw sweep of the top five. Brooke Dowe (Bedford) was the top Bandit, finishing seventh overall  in the 13-car field.

Mahar and Josh Langille (Coldbrook) won Hydraulics Plus Bandolero heat races.
