August 31st: Kiddie Rides Night by Fleet Brake Atlantic

Toursec Lightning

Marshall Bezanson used a veteran move to take home his third win of 2018.

When it appeared that “Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) was going to race to his first win since June, the No. 141 Ken-etic Auto Neon slowed inside the final five laps. Bezanson and point leader Steve Matthews (Bedford) came up on Drake as he tried to limp his car home. The Oldham driver used Drake as a pick on Matthews, enough of a move to lock down his second straight and third win in five races.

“This has been a dream season,” said Bezanson. “I wish we had those first few races back to battle for the championship but coming back like we have you can’t ask for more.”

Matthews finished second and padded his point lead with just two races left. Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke) got by Drake for third in the late stages with Drake being able to hold on to fourth. Mike Jollimore (Halifax) brought his car home in fifth.

Travis Keefe (Gold River) and Bruce Larter (Halifax) took home heat wins. For Larter, it was his first heat race victory at Scotia Speedworld.

Toursec Thunder
After motor issues in his first four races, Hibby has finally hit his stride.

David Hibbs (Lower Sackville) raced to his second straight Toursec Thunder win on Friday night. Coming off a caution free Toursec 50, the 25-lap feature on Fleet Brake Atlantic Night also went without a yellow flag period.

Hibbs made the winning move in the opening ten laps on Nic Baker (Middle Sackville), who had the best run of his season on Friday evening. Baker won his heat race and ultimately finished fourth as Jesse Deveau (Greenwood) and Tim Webster (Beaver Bank) raced by the No. 88 late in the feature. Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) completed the top five in the feature.

Neil Miousse (Kentville) won the high handicap heat race.

Affordable Fuels Sportsman
Race fans knew it was only a matter of time before Darren Wallage (Oakfield) returned to the top of the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division. Wallage became the seventh different winner in eight regular point paying races after driving to victory lane in Friday night’s 38-lap feature on Fleet Brake Atlantic Night.

Wallage started fifth in the feature and waited patiently for ten laps as Joey Livingstone (Pictou Landing) and Brentley Pirri (Three Fathom Harbour) battled side by side for the lead. Wallage saw an opening on Lap 10 and completed the pass on Lap 13 on Pirri for the lead, one he would not relinquish for the rest of the race.

Matt Vaughan (Bedford) raced to a second place finish with Richard Salter (Centre Burlington) continuing his career season with a third place finish. Point leader Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) brought his No. 11 car home in fourth with Livingstone completing his big night with a fifth place finish to go with his heat win. Alex Johnson (Enfield) scored the victory in the high handicap heat.

Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros

OUTLAW/BANDIT

In one of the most exciting finishes of Fleet Brake Atlantic Night, Danny Chisholm (Canning) edged out Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow) for the win in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero combined Bandit and Outlaw feature.

The podium finishers battled hard for the lead with Chisholm coming home with his third win of the season by less than a car length over Rogers. Point leader and third place finisher Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) and Rogers expressed displeasure with Chisholm in their post race interviews on how Chisholm raced them during the event.

Matthew Rushton (Dartmouth) raced to a strong fourth place finish after a spin early in the feature. Brooke Dowe (Bedford) was fifth overall and was the top Bandit in the field in one of her best races of the 2018 season thus far.

Dylan Dowe (Bedford) and Nate Singer (Kennetcook) took home heat race victories.

BEGINNER BANDOLERO

Gage Gilby (Enfield) drove to his sixth Hydraulics Plus Beginner Bandolero feature win, inching himself one step closer to the championship with two races to go in the class.

Gilby took advantage of an early caution to pass Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) for the lead. Christensen, who won the heat race, had built a big lead in the opening five laps but a caution allowed Gilby to rocket to the lead.

Christensen would wind up second while fighting throttle issues with the No. 24 while Emily Chisholm (Antigonish) passed Caden Tufts (Halifax) late for the final podium position.

Campbell Delaney completed the top five in the ten car feature.
