TOURSEC LIGHTNING
The Smith Brothers made the Toursec Lightning division their playground in front of a Pro Stock crowd on Sunday afternoon.
Jorden Smith (Lakeside) started up front and quickly took the lead in the 25-lap feature. His brother Deven (Lakeside) took a little longer to pick his way through the field but once he did, he pulled away from the pack.
A restart with five laps to go tightened up the field and put Deven beside Jorden for a final shootout for the ages.
While Jorden sprinted out to the lead, Deven kept him on his toes as he challenged for the lead a handful of times in the waning laps. In the end, Jorden would come out on top in his first start of the season. Deven finished second behind his brother while point leader Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood) was third. Thibodeau battled with eight drivers for most of the feature for the fourth place spot before Travis Keefe (Clayton Park) got caught up with a lapped car and an ensuing fire took the Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie out of the third place spot.
“Rational” Richard Drake (Halifax) brought his car home in fourth in the 16-car field, with “Mr Lightning on the Hill” Steve Matthews (Bedford) right behind him in fifth.
Jorden Smith and Keefe won qualifying heat races.
With Darrell Sullivan (Harrietsfield) absent from the event, Thibodeau now has an 18 point lead over Drake after four races.
PULSE HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS
Matt Vaughan (Fletcher Lake) returned to the Pulse Heavy Duty Truck division and made a statement by taking the checkered flag in his one-off appearance.
Vaughan, driving the #24 Fastrac Machining Chevrolet for Adam Carter (Lantz) held off Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) for the win in the 25-lap feature. Smith tried a number of times to get by Vaughan but could not make the move stick for the win.
Heat race winner Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank), who had overheating issues late in the feature, brought her truck home in third. Cory Leonard (Goodwood) and Gordie Ritchie (Elmsdale) did not finish the event.
Dan Smith’s point gap has shrunk to four points over Carter as the field heads into Kiddie Night on Friday.
