18th Annual Shriner’s Classic in Memory of Terry and Lockie Roma Set for Friday

(Halifax, NS – July 26, 2011) The 18th Annual Shriner’s Classic for Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman is on deck for Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. The Shriner’s Classic is the longest actively running race in consecutive years in Atlantic Canada with its 18th edition taking the green flag on Friday. The champions list boasts many of the best short track stars and legends from the region. The race is being run in memory of Terry and Lockie Roma, the only three time champions of the event who passed away earlier in the year. Also on the docket Friday night are the Lumbermart Thunder & Lightning cars, Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Gates open at 5:00pm, heat races to determine starting positions on the grid get underway at 7:00pm immediately followed by feature racing.

The last three ‘Classic winners have gone on to win the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman Series championship. Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) currently leads the points over Larry Fisher (Porter’s Lake), Phil Barkhouse Jr (Beaverbank), Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) and Mike Banks (Middleton).  The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman Series will be joined by the Strictly Hydraulics Legends, Jack Daniel’s Trucks and ACE Lumbermart Thunder and Lightning divisions on Friday.

Scotia Speedworld and the Dartmouth Shrine Club have raised over $250,000 since 1988 at “Atlantic Canada’s Action Centre,” which has gone towards the IWK Children’s Charities. Be sure to pick up your 50/50 tickets at the track on Friday night, which will also benefit the Shrine Club and the IWK Children’s Charities.

Adult admission for the Weekly Racing Series is just $12.00; Youth (8-15) are $2.00 and children 7 and under are free…all summer long! Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
