(Halifax, NS. August 22, 2012) It's going to be a busy night at Scotia Speedworld this Friday! The Weekly Racing Series will of course be in action in addition to the re-scheduled running of the 18thannual Shriner’s Classic. It's also Fan Appreciation night this Friday at Scotia, fans will have a chance to win some great prizes courtesy of Scotia Speedworld sponsors. Joining the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman on the 3/10 mile oval will be; the Jack Daniel’s Trucks, ACE Lumbermart Thunder and Lightning and the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Friday evening's racing card is being presented by Energy 103.5, Metro’s new #1 Hit Music Station!
The re-scheduled running of the 18th Annual Shriner’s Classic for Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman will be the highlight Friday night at Scotia Speedworld. The Shriner’s Classic is the longest actively running race in consecutive years in Atlantic Canada. The 'Classic’s winner list boasts many of the best short track stars and legends from the region. This 18th edition of the Classic is being run in memory of Terry and Lockie Roma, the only three-time champions of the event, who passed away earlier this year. Terry’s son Travis Roma is scheduled to pilot the iconic No. 38 in the ‘Classic on Friday evening.
The last three Shriner’s Classic winners have gone on to win the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman Series championship. With just three races left for the Sportsman this season, Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) is the series current leader, with a healthy 38 point margin over his closest competitor Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake). Boutilier will be out of province this Friday and has tapped Kyle Butler to take the helm of the No. 4 entry in the Shriner’s Classic.
Scotia Speedworld and the Dartmouth Shrine Club have raised over $250,000 since 1988. These funds have been donated to IWK Children’s Charities. Be sure to pick up your 50/50 tickets at the track on Friday nights, which benefit the Shrine Club and the IWK Children’s Charities.
