38TH SEASON AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD SPEEDS INTO SUMMER ON SATURDAY

38TH SEASON AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD SPEEDS INTO SUMMER ON SATURDAY post thumbnail

(Halifax, NS – May 15, 2025) – One of the biggest pavement stock car oval racing programs in Eastern Canada is set to kick off this Saturday as Scotia Speedworld hosts the Bay Equipment Rentals Weekly Racing Series Season Opener. Drivers and teams in all five house divisions will kick off their quest for valuable championship points and checkered flags at 2pm on Saturday, May 17th. Returning for 2025 include the Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman, United Mortgage Alliance Legends, Traction Mini Stocks, Bluenose Pools Bandoleros and Bluenose Pools Beginners.

Pre-season excitement is high, with well over 110 drivers registered to compete throughout the season. The biggest turnout is in the Traction Mini Stocks with registrations between part and full time teams pushing 40 cars. Reigning two-time champion Ross Moore (Lake Egmont) has flaunted that he will only run a partial schedule, meaning the championship is wide open for the taking. Should Ross have a change of heart and chase a third championship, he would attempt to become the first in the class to win three consecutive Four Cylinder titles at the track. Former track champion Jamie Dillman (Shubenacadie) was the fastest car at last week’s Test n Tune practice session of 15 cars that took part.

Same song, different verse for the Maritime Auto Glass Sportsman. Russell Smith Sr (Lakeside) took home a track title for the veterans in 2024, but with his schedule unknown, we could have a new champion emerge in the class. A healthy mix of seasoned drivers and newcomers will contend weekly for race wins. Among those making their Sportsman debut on Opening Day is former Bandolero Champion and multi-time Legend winner at the Speedworld in Chase MacKay (Bear Cove). MacKay will do double duty in his No. 71 Legend car and the No. 72 Sportsman car on Saturday!

Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction) leads the United Mortgage Alliance Legends into battle on Saturday. Christensen, the reigning track champion, raced for a National INEX Semi-Pro championship in 2024, ultimately winding up third in the world out of hundreds of talented race car drivers – and he started his racing career and continues to race at Scotia Speedworld! With over 30 drivers pre-registered to race throughout 2025, he’ll have to fend off rising stars and Legend car mainstays to go back-to-back this season.

The Bluenose Pools Bandolero division was won by breakout star Bella Pashkoski (Beaver Bank) in 2024 and she is back to defend her title. Only Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River) and current Fort Garry Industries Pro Stock Tour champion Jarrett Butcher (Porters Lake) have won back-to-back titles in the class. Returning faces to the class include Avery DeCoste (Antigonish), Ethan Hicken (New Glasgow), Lily Whynot (Dartmouth), Irelyn Rose (Hubley) and Bristol Matthews (Nine Mile River). A host of new Bluenose Pools Beginners are also scheduled to compete on Saturday, with a full roster still being finalized for the newcomers by race operations at press time.

Admission for the Bay Equipment Rentals Weekly Racing Series is $20 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15yrs), children seven and under are free all season at Scotia Speedworld! Grandstands open at 5:00PM, racing will commence as soon as Kiddie Rides are complete. For more information, please visit www.scotiaspeedworld.ca
